A partial communications outage is occurring in Spain as a result of Telefonica’s telecom network update.

Three weeks after Spain experienced a devastating power outage, the Spanish telecom operator Telefonica reported that on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, a communications outage of fixed phone and internet lines occurred in some parts of the country due to network upgrades.
After experiencing interruptions during the early hours of Tuesday (May 20, 2025), the business indicated in a brief statement that its crews were trying to restore service and that the 112 Emergency lines were already operational again in the impacted locations.
The communication breakdown comes after a major power outage in Spain and Portugal on April 28, the cause of which remains unknown..
The services of other major providers were unaffected, and Telefonica is now Spain’s second-largest operator after Orange’s MasOrange. Additionally, Telefonica’s mobile service seemed to function properly.
The majority of the reported disruptions included fixed-line internet connections in the areas of Aragon, Valencia, Andalusia, Extremadura, the Basque Country, and Navarra, according to the Downdetector monitoring website.
